Jewel of Opar, the name of a garden flower, accented
by chartreuse
foliage, with attractive pink blossoms and ruby-orange
seed pods. And
such a colorful perennial is an apt description for a
belly dance troupe whose
members come from a variety of backgrounds and from so many walks of
life.
Based in San Jose, Jewel of Opar has been dancing together since 2004. The women of Jewel of Opar come from many different cities and many different lives from around the south bay. What links us all is our love of dance.
Modern Egyptian dance is our foundation, but we blend innovation and other dance inspirations to create our joyful dancing. Each performance is a celebration of the strength and grace of all women, honoring the accomplishment of each dancer, and an invitation to all of us to find ways to share joy and beauty every day.
